DEREK HARBINSON CERAMICS

About my work

The vast majority of my work is thrown on the wheel, either as single pieces such as bowls or vases or as multiple pieces that are then assembled. Mostly I take inspiration from a 1970s childhood, imagined civilisations and space travel, all bound up with mid-century style and often some fun. Many of my pots have imagined backstories and invented histories. You can follow on Instagram @derek.harbinson

About me

Hi there, I'm Derek and I make ceramics in my studio in a converted chapel in the beautiful Peak District, England. I trained as a journalist and spent many years as a magazine editor but first worked with clay when I studied art in college a looooong time ago and always had a love of pottery. I was lucky enough to be chosen as one of the contestants on series 6 of The Great Pottery Throwdown, which was one of the great experiences of my life.
